Home Gym Assembly
Multi-station gym, power rack, cable machine, or full home gym system -- these are among the most complex assembly jobs in the equipment world. Cable routing and frame squareness make or break the result.
A Geek team handles it from box to first rep. $249.99.
The box weighs 400 lbs. It came in three boxes. You are now intimately familiar with your garage floor.
Before you open the boxes:
- •Multi-station gyms require 2--3 people for frame erection -- do not attempt solo
- •Anchor power racks to the floor -- unanchored racks tip during pull-ups and overhead pressing
- •Cable routing must be done before installing covers -- re-routing requires significant disassembly
- •Route cables before final frame tightening -- correcting a misrouted cable after bolts are torqued requires frame disassembly
- •Check floor load capacity -- 300 lb weight stack + user + impact forces can exceed floor joist ratings in older homes
- •Lubricate weight stack guide rods before installing weight plates -- dry rods cause squeaking and wear
What you'll need
This is a serious tool job -- no included hex keys.
Weight stack cable machines and power racks require multiple people for upright positioning. Single-person assembly risks frame instability and injury.
The structural bolts on multi-station gyms require real torque. Allen keys and hand-only tightening are inadequate for safety-critical frame connections.
Frame-to-frame connections and weight stack guide rod connections have spec torque values. Under-torqued joints fail under load.
Some frame joints are tight-tolerance press fits -- beating them with a steel hammer damages the aluminum.
The weight stack cables run through pulleys and guides. Dry pulleys squeak, wear, and eventually fray cables. A light oil on guide rods before installation prevents this.
Power racks and wall-mounted pull-up stations must be anchored. Unanchored racks tip under load -- this is a serious injury risk.
The steps
5 steps. Read the manual before starting. This one means it.
