The bypass module is for a 2019 Civic. This is a 2019 Accord. They have completely different immobilizer systems. The car will not start.
This is a complex install -- read these before starting:
- •This install involves cutting into ignition wiring. A wrong connection can prevent the car from starting at all, trigger theft deterrents, or in rare cases damage the ECU. Experienced DIYers only.
- •Manual transmission vehicles should NOT have remote start installed. The safety requirements are complex and a failure can result in an unattended car in gear.
- •The bypass module must match your exact year/make/model/trim. An incorrect bypass module will appear to install correctly and then fail to allow the car to start.
- •Never connect anything to airbag (SRS) wiring -- yellow wires under the column shroud. Accidental airbag deployment causes serious injury and costs thousands to reset.
- •Always test the hood-open kill switch before completing the install -- a running unattended engine in a sealed garage is a carbon monoxide hazard.
- •Some push-button-start vehicles with smart key systems require additional dealer programming after bypass module installation -- verify this before starting.
What you'll need
Look up your bypass module compatibility before buying anything else -- the bypass module determines whether remote start is even possible on your vehicle.
These are the three major brands with reliable bypass module support. Avoid no-name units -- ignition bypass programming requires brand-specific software and many no-name units lack the tools needed to program them correctly.
Required for virtually every car built after 2000. The bypass module defeats the transponder immobilizer that would otherwise prevent the car from starting when the key isn't present. Vehicle-specific -- look up your year/make/model to find the correct module.
You will be working directly in the ignition wiring harness -- the most consequential wiring in the vehicle. A multimeter confirms wire identity, polarity, and circuit behavior before you make any connection. Non-negotiable.
Generic wiring color codes are wrong more often than they're right. Vehicle-specific wiring diagrams from a known source (iDatalink Weblink, Metra Maestro, dealer data) give you the actual wire colors and functions for your year/make/model.
Posi-Taps allow non-destructive taps into existing wires (good for signal wires you're reading from). Heat-shrink butt connectors make permanent, sealed splices for power and ground connections. Both are needed for ignition wiring work.
Ignition wiring is under the steering column -- behind multiple trim panels and often a knee bolster. Panel removal tools get you there without breaking clips. Wire strippers and a quality crimper ensure connections that won't fail.
